The Land
Karimenga Village
The village goes back to the end of the 18th century when it was known as Timeema (“let’s build” in the local language). Today that village has evolved into Karimenga. With around 100 homes and less then 600 members. Agriculture is the primary occupation. There is a primary school, a guest house and a mosque. Its located Near the white Volta river in a rural area between the cities of Bolga and Tamale.
The Green House
The Green House is an eco-tourism guesthouse and community initiative designed to provide tourists with an authentic local living experience. Located in the Karimenga Eco Village near Bolgatanga, it offers cultural activities, local food, and opportunities to learn about indigenous solutions for daily life, such as herbal medicine and shea butter production. The Green House project aims to benefit the local community by promoting sustainable tourism and cultural exchange, though the village itself faces challenges like limited access to education.
